Enter two dates to get the days, weeks, months and working days between them, or move a date forward or back by days, weeks, months or years. Everything is worked out in your browser and the dates are never sent anywhere.

What do you want to work out?

Counts run from the start date up to, but not including, the end date. Tick the box to count the end day as well.

From today

Where the spans people look up most often land. The day rows are exact; the month and year rows step through the calendar.

Does the count include the end day?

Not unless you tick Include the end day. By default the count runs from the start date up to, but not including, the end date, so 1 January to 2 January is 1 day and 1 January to 31 January is 30 days. With the end day included the same span is 31 days, which is how you would count the days of a holiday that covers both dates. The setting applies to every figure, including the working and weekend days.

How are the months and years worked out?

In whole calendar months from the start date, then the days left over. 15 March to 10 April 2025 is 26 days, because the month would only be complete on 15 April. When the start date's day of the month does not exist in a later month, that month runs to its last day: 31 January to 28 February 2025 counts as 1 month, and 31 January to 1 March as 1 month and 1 day. Weeks are simpler: the total days divided by 7, with the remainder shown as days.

What counts as a working day?

Monday to Friday. Saturdays and Sundays are weekend days, and the two figures always add up to the total. Public holidays are not removed, because they differ by country and state, so take off any that fall inside your span. Monday 6 October to Friday 10 October 2025 is 4 working days, or 5 with the end day included.

What is 31 January plus one month?

28 February, or 29 February in a leap year. Adding months or years keeps the same day of the month wherever it exists and otherwise stops at the last day of the month: 31 January 2026 plus 1 month is 28 February 2026, 31 March plus 1 month is 30 April, and 29 February 2024 plus 1 year is 28 February 2025. The result tells you when this has happened. Days and weeks never need it, so 30 days is always exactly 30 days.

Why do some date calculators come out a day short?

Many count by subtracting two midnight timestamps and dividing by 86,400,000, the milliseconds in a day. Across a daylight-saving change a local day is 23 or 25 hours long, so the division gives something like 29.96 and the count rounds the wrong way. This tool anchors every date at noon UTC, where there is no daylight saving, and counts whole days from there, so you get the same answer in every time zone. Dates are treated as calendar days only: the time of day is never involved.
